My professional vision of establishing myself as a nurse practitioner largely stems from my orientation in a rural community. Hailing from an agricultural family in a village in Haryana, I imbibed the virtues of compassion, community care, loyalty, and honesty from my family. Working for the society is a cause for which I decided to devote my profession. Bridging my interests, values, and professional goals, I decided to become a nurse practitioner and make a visible difference in the lifestyle of the people in our society. Nursing is a noble profession that I want to fit into seamlessly. All these years, I have channelled my efforts to evolve as a competent nurse. The industry-oriented course in nursing that the Felician University would put me on track for a gratifying career.
My objective as a nurse practitioner is to acquire industry skills from a globally recognized university. This will help me soar to greater pedestals in my professional circuit. At the same time, I will be able to contribute to the cause of the community. In India, large areas of underserved communities need better nursing and healthcare facilities. Once I complete this course, I am going to return to my homeland and establish myself as an accomplished practitioner.
As a nurse, I wish to propagate the principles of a healthy lifestyle and better healthcare in my homeland. In the rural healthcare sector in India, the need for preventive education is the need of the hour. However, to establish myself as a nurse practitioner and gain an edge over my peers in the competitive professional sphere in India, I need a specialize course to train myself up. An internationally recognized program in nursing will bestow me with the certificate to work with reputed hospitals and NGOs in India. I have grown up in the rural communities, and want to give back my gratification to the society.
I would like to go back to my high school days, when my interest in nursing first showed up. It was during my volunteering experience at a nursing home that I took a health science class. While interacting with the patients, I realized how comforting they felt while talking to us. Their simple attitude and needy profile changed my attitude toward life. I realized that my empathetic nature requires me to indulge in a profession that would help me contribute to these masses. At the same time, I realized how valuable it was to establish deep connections with patients. Channelling my soft skills and professional goals toward productive shores, I decided to pursue a career in nursing.
After completing my bachelor’s program in nursing in India, I got the opportunity to work as a staff nurse at a reputed government hospital in Chennai. For three years, I worked here in the critical care department. This professional exposure presented me with a valuable learning experience. Here, I nursed several patients each day. However, one of the incidents keeps lingering down my memory lane, that would make a difference in the way I perceive my profession. The patient had undergone a lung biopsy, and his family had been waiting for six hours to know the outcome. Finally, in the evening, one of the doctors revealed that the patient had just 2.5 months to live, as he already had his cancer in the fourth stage. Well, I had been observing the conversation, and could see the shock that overtook his family members. It took them quite some time to absorb the news and understand its gravity. However, the doctor who conveyed the news was used to dealing with such intense situations with composure. After conveying the news, he gently walked off the room. Well, I felt sad for the family, and spend the next hour sitting with them as they gradually came to believe the news. I also felt gratified that I was able to console the family, considering the humanitarian grounds that nurses need to share with patients.
My passion to work as a nurse keeps me going, which prompted me to pursue an advanced degree in the US. This degree will help me understand the latest trends in the industry to enhance patient care. For instance, I want to delve deeper into the prevention, diagnosis, and treating patients with specific ailments. My primary focus would be on the preventive aspects of diseases or medical conditions. Walking in the shoes of a critical care nurse, I have noticed that lots of patients aggravate to late stages with chronic diseases due to the lack of knowledge regarding preventive strategies. Rather than treating these patients back to health, I feel the urge to educate healthcare professionals and patients about the preventive tactics in the first place. I have also interacted with nurse practitioners of my unit and sought knowledge resources from them. My objective is to enhance patient care and treat them holistically to make a difference in the curing process.
My heart lies back in the rural community, which has nurtured me all these years. Even when I establish myself and work with one of the esteemed hospital chains in India, I would continue to offer free medical services and launch clinics for people having no benefits like insurance. The access to healthcare is what the people of my community need today. I would like to evolve as a family nurse practitioner and enhance the quality of healthcare in India. For me, it would be an experience gratifying indeed as I embrace this rewarding career. As I mature as a nurse practitioner, I would like to set my way upon international medical missions to help needy communities across the borders.
At this stage of my career, an internationally recognized nurse practitioner program will propel me closer to my professional goals. Given that my upbringing, education, and professional experience align with the program I wish to study in the US, I earnestly request you to grant me the opportunity to pursue the same. Channelling my acumen, tenacity, and determination to learn and serve the needy segments of the society, I look forward to scale up my professional hierarchy. An opportunity to pursue the desired program at your university will bolster my professional life.
